Andrew Baio, whose blog is featured in The Book, has what appears to be another scoop, this time about Yahoo’s contextual ad experiments.
I was told to look at Andy’s site by a Yahoo employee, so I think it’s worth a click, especially if you’re a blogger keeping informed about ways to make money from your blog.
Bascially, there’s a guy named Ken Rudman who works at Yahoo Search Marketing Solutions (which was known as Overture until recently). He has a blog, and on that blog, appear ads that seem to be somewhat contextually based. They’re served by a Yahoo server that has no other known purpose, I think. This could be a peek at Yahoo’s answer to Google’s AdWords.
The matching’s not perfect, though it is, after all, not even released yet. On a posting that mentions “Red Badge of Courage,” there’s an ad for Stephen Crane. Not too shabby! But on a post about Habitat for Humanity, there are ads for VoIP services and college degrees. I’m sure things will look better when the program launches.
