Blog-Like Design

Susan Mernit recently gave my Web design company Hop Studios a nice kudo for a recent project and noted that the design was very “blog-like.”

Which got me to thinking—what constitutes a blog-like design? What makes a site feel bloggy even when it isn’t a blog?

For starters, I think you’re talking about heavily CSS-driven design, especially design elements that are created using only CSS and no graphics. But for most users, this kind of thing is probably pretty transparent.

So what is it that makes a site blog-like? Anybody have a site that reminds them of a blog but isn’t? Or thoughts on bloggy design elements? I’d really like to hear!

  1. Hi Susannah,

Being a “Search Gal” I’m no CSS-wiz (that’s why I’m using a plain old Blogger template) but I have been inspired by the results of the recent Metafilter redesign contest.
