BitTorrent for Dummies

The big news here is that I’ll be writing another book: BitTorrent for Dummies. It should be out in October.

I’ll be helped by the able Kris Krug and intellectual property lawyer Michael Overing.

We’re all pretty excited about this. When we’ve firmed up the table of contents I’ll try to get it up for you to look at. In the meantime, if you have a suggestion about an issue, topic or technology—or any other input—please just .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).

  1. Congratulations—you’re started on your way to your fourth book! (Yes, I know I could just poke my head out of my office and say that, but it’s worth saying in public, too!)

  2. Kudos!
BTW this might be old news but I’ll state it here
anyways. There is a HUGE (2.6GB) torrent of 750 individual mp3s of the participants at this weeks SXSW conference over at http://citizenpod.com/ Worth noting was that it is being disributed as a guide for festival goers, complete with notes/bios/schedules on the acts. Cool!

What a great use of this technology. I can’t wait for the tools to catch up to the intent. Imagine rich content delivered to my iPod with video as well as audio. I could bone up on Louvre on the flight over, and then use my iPod as a guided tour.
    Brilliant.

I look forward to the updates on your project and as always you have your finger on the pulse!!!

  3. For those who are clueless about BitTorrent and are in no hurry to figure it out, there's a BitTorrent for Dummies in the pipeline. It's about time someone wrote a book about BitTorrent. At the moment there isn't a book

  4. Susannah just signed to do her second book (actually fourth, if you count co-author gigs). It's going to be another book for Wiley: BitTorrent for Dummies. BitTorrent is two things: a method for transfering large files efficiently to many people at once, and a the name of a program that uses this method. BitTorrent is especially good at allowing someone to "publish" a really big file -- an application, a video, a large chunk of data -- and deliver it…

  6. I have some big news that has been out in other places for a few days but that I have yet to post here. I'm going to be c0-authoring the book "Bit Torrent for Dummies" with Susanah Gardner, author of 2 other "For Dummies" brand books. This is the first…

  7. As you know, Susie's been working on another book: "Bittorrent for Dummies."  Well, it's finished.  We're thrilled, and can't wait for it to appear in stores, most likely in October.

  8. Is there a release date yet? Looking forward to reading it. Btw the first book is a great training manual for anyone starting out.
