Why is it worth doing public art on the Internet?

Why is it worth creating any art? This question is merely distracting; the fact that the artist chooses to work in on medium or another is rarely questioned; an artist may be asked to defend producing a piece in a certain way, or in choice of materials, but that is not the same as questioning whether the piece is worth making.

Not all artists choose to work on the Internet; not all artists choose to work in paint. This fact does not invalidate either medium, nor make either less or more valid a choice. Why is it worth doing public art on the Internet? Why is worth doing any art?
